Frequently asked questions

What happens to the energy I do not use?

When the panels produce more than you are using, it does not have to go to waste. It can be stored in the battery to be used later, at night for instance. If the battery is full, the surplus can be fed into the grid and compensated on your bill, depending on your contract and the self-consumption scheme.

Does it work on cloudy days?

Yes. Panels also produce on cloudy days, although less than on a sunny one. And with a battery you can use the energy you stored earlier to cover part of what you use while solar production is low.

And if there is a power cut?

It depends on the installation. An ordinary grid-connected solar installation disconnects during a power cut, for safety. If the system has a battery with a backup function and is set up to use it, it can keep some of the circuits in the house running while the grid is down.

Can the battery decide when to charge and discharge by price?

Yes, if the system has a compatible energy manager. The battery can be programmed to put solar energy first, charge when electricity is cheapest and discharge when the price is highest or when you need it. That makes better use of your energy and means buying less electricity from the grid.
